I am a registered psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience working in public mental health services, NGOs and private psychotherapy practice.  I have worked extensively with trauma with adolescents and adults as well as with anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties. I have also worked in the field of eating disorders, and with people who experience a high level of emotional responses; supporting both those affected by abuse and individuals seeking to change problematic behaviours. I have enjoyed running therapy groups for men for many years and have been involved in personal development programs and counsellor training programs. I have worked with Oranga Tamariki (Ministry for Children), the court, restorative justice, and Community Mental Health Services.

 

I was originally trained in Germany as an electronic engineer and worked in this field in NZ between 1992 and 2004, including teaching positions.

I have held senior roles, including management at the Auckland district health board.

 

Specialist areas

The range of issues I have worked with includes anger problems, anxiety/panic attacks, eating disorders, depression, sexual and emotional abuse, internet-related difficulties, and issues with intimacy and sexuality.

 

I offer couples and family therapy in addition to individual psychotherapy and can offer therapy in German and English.

 

I am also a supervisor for other professionals for group work and individual therapy.

 

My special interest is in bringing Mind and Body in balance. I am incorporating mindfulness-based practices into my therapeutic approaches.

 

Approaches

Originally trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Stefan has also trained in psychodrama, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mentalization-based therapy (MBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprogramming (EMDR).
